Is Toyota Glanza Inspired By Maruti Suzuki Baleno?

Toyota Glanza Inspired By Maruti Suzuki BalenoToyota’s latest offering in the premium hatchback – Glanza takes a major cue from the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The new Baleno facelift has been ruling the Indian market in the premium hatchback segment.

Glanza is the first vehicle to be launched under the partnership of Toyota-Suzuki, and hence the look makes sense. The exterior looks just like the Baleno with just a change in logo and there seems to be no major changes. It is so similar that even the boot capacity remains the same at 339 litres.

Now coming to the interior, the cabin stays true to that of the Baleno hatchback, with the same pattern of seats, dashboard and door pads. The cabin space is an exact replica of the Maruti-Suzuki product, the only difference being the steering wheel that has the Toyota badge. The touchscreen infotainment system is also a take-off from Baleno.

The Toyota has achieved a first with this model and introduces Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, Glanza has left out the dedicated Smartphone app and ‘Suzuki Connect’ with pre-loaded features. It would have been a good choice to include that as well because of the several benefits it carries like vehicle tracking, geo-fencing, driver behaviour analysis, fuel efficiency report, trip details and live vehicle alerts.

Though, Glanza has its own Toyota Connect app, it doesn’t really match up to the standards of Suzuki Connect.

Toyota Glanza boasts base ‘G’ variant, which is the most powerful in the entire range. It is powered by a 1.2L K12N engine with mild hybrid technology and a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine touches top power of 90bhp and peak torque of 113Nm. The latest offering from Toyota is available with a 7-speed CVT gearbox.

When it comes to the price, Baleno has the edge over Glanza. While Glanza is offered with four variants: G MT (Rs 7.22 Lakhs), V MT (Rs 7.58 Lakhs), G CVT (Rs 8.29 Lakhs) and V CVT (Rs 8.90 Lakhs), Baleno starts at a relatively lower price with Rs 5.58 Lakhs and reaches up to 8.90 Lakhs.
